Mid-Century Reimagined: A Fresh Modern Take in Menlo Park
(
7
)

/ About the project
This custom remodel in Menlo Park, CA was all about taking a tired mid-century shell and transforming it into a bright, modern home tailored for contemporary living. From curb appeal to custom millwork, every element was rethought with purpose and restraint, resulting in a design that feels both fresh and timeless.
Design Vision
The goal was to create an open, breathable interior with thoughtful design moments—without overcomplicating the architecture. By focusing on material warmth, high contrast, and natural light, we gave this home a whole new personality while maintaining respect for its original structure.
Key Features
Crisp Modern Curb Appeal
New façade featuring clean white stucco, black-framed windows, and a frosted-glass garage door updates the home’s presence while retaining familiar rooflines.
Statement Kitchen With a Splash of Color
The heart of the home boasts a bold mint green island, paired with natural white oak cabinets and matte black stone countertops. Vaulted ceilings with exposed beams and large sliding doors invite daylight and create dramatic volume.
Custom Bathroom Millwork
Both bathrooms feature floating vanities crafted in warm oak tones, paired with sleek brushed brass hardware and illuminated mirrors. One bathroom showcases a soft blue stacked tile for a spa-like feel, while the other balances contrast with a black stone backsplash.
Bar Niche with Open Shelving + Wine Storage
This stylish and functional bar area includes dark cabinetry, open oak shelving, and a mini fridge—perfect for entertaining or casual daily use.
Designed for Today, Rooted in Simplicity
This project reflects what we love most at VRchitects—clean lines, bold materials, natural light, and livable functionality. It’s not just a renovation—it’s a full reimagining that honors the original home while preparing it for the next generation.
